13.05.2019

Hiii!!! It's me again! Today I want to share with you some curiosities about pasta that I'm sure you didn't know! Let's get into it! #YAAAAS

1. It seems that the origin of Pasta is Etruscan, not Chinese!

Apparently, there is evidence that verifies that theEtruscan civilizations crushed various cereals and then mixed them with water to be able to cook it. The result was a very nutritious food in their diet.

2. The introduction of pasta to Italy by Marco Polo is just a myth.

Marco Polo was a lover of pasta and when he went to China he discovered a recipe that impressed him, but in Italy the pasta was already known. It seems to have been introduced to the country from Sicily, thanks to the Arab influence on the island.

3. In the beginning, pasta was called maccare.

The term "pasta" is quite recent. In the beginning, it was called maccare (which in Latin derives from the verb that comes to mean crush). Then, around 1400, pasta in Italy was called lasagna because of the name of its manufacturers. Finally, fidelli were born, some pasta threads with a cylindrical shape and their manufacturers were called fidelari. In 1800 they changed their name and became known as vermicellai.

4. Pasta has its own mythological chapter.

Pasta may not be an Italian invention, but what is clear is that from the beginning this dish was one of the hallmarks of his people. For this reason, they had a perfect explanation for their invention based on their own mythology:

"Pasta is born as a result between a fight between Vulcano, the god of fire, and Ceres, the goddess of vegetation and grains. Vulcan became so enraged that he plucked the grains of wheat from the earth and crushed them with his enormous mass of iron. The flour that was obtained introduced it through the mouth of Vesuvius between the flames and vapors, then it sprinkled with juice of olives and ate its result, a plate of pasta ".

5. The first protoindustrial fabrications were made by feet.

When the pasta started to be manufactured for sale, the crushing of the cereal was carried out by hand, and always through the feet of the women who, as a dance, crushed the barley, the wheat, etc.

Yummy, right?
